I hope that everyone is well and geared up to consume large quantities of food for the next several weeks (I know I am).
I want to thank the Northview United Methodist Church community for the opportunity to return as the Youth Coordinator in 2010. When I left the position at the beginning of the 2009 to complete my internship at the Presbyterian Community Center (PCC), Cindy and I were faced with what I would describe as a sort of spiritual identity crisis. As much as I enjoyed and grew at PCC (where I hope to possibly return one day as a counselor), Cindy and I both felt a great loss.
For three years, with Cindy’s help and encouragement, I served as Northview’s Youth Coordinator and Cindy and I were both grateful for every moment. So again, I want to thank everyone at Northview for the opportunity to return. Cindy and I are both excited getting to work with the youth again and for having the opportunity to serve, have fun, and act crazy all under the guise of being calm and peaceful youth workers.
Having said all that…
I am currently finishing up my first semester at Radford University where I am enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work degree program. As this first semester rapidly comes to an end, I am beginning to make plans for Northview’s UMYF program in 2010. Some of the ideas that have been mentioned thus far include:
Game Nights and Movie Nights at the Roanoke United Methodist Home
Monthly service projects (possibly at RAM House or at the Rescue Mission)
Lock-Ins
The Annual Youth Mission Trip
Some Shorter Mission Trips (possibly to Lynchburg or Richmond)
Destination Unknown Trips
Let me know what you think of these ideas. Also, PLEASE let me know if you have any additional thoughts, comments, or suggestions. You can setup a Google account and post your responses here in this blog or you can contact me directly via e-mail @ Never2Heavy@aol.com.
I am excited and grateful...
Thank you for the opportunity,
Mike
